Tallahassee History

This morning, we went on a field trip with the local homeschool group to the John G. Riley Center and Museum.
"John G. Riley was a prominent African-American educator and civic leader in Tallahassee during the late 19th century and early 20th century. His home has been turned into the John G. Riley Center and Museum of African American History and Culture."

The museum featured an animatronic John G. Riley who told about his life.

Our guide then walked us down to the Smokey Hollow Commemorative Plaza and explained the significance of the large African-American neighborhood that used to be in the area.
